How to Be More Productive in Your Business

Productivity is one of the biggest challenges for businesses today. With so many distractions taking our focus away from important tasks, we often become busy doing things, but not necessarily doing the right things to boost our business.

Luckily, there are ways to foster your focus, cut distractions and be more productive in your business on a daily basis. Here are 5 things you can do to get your productivity back on track.

  1. Take Advantage of Your Commute

Whether you walk, drive or take transit during the day, use that time to work on your business. If you take transit, you can create to-do lists, take business phone calls, and send emails you’ve meaning to blast out. If you walk or drive, take your commute time to brainstorm and listen to podcasts that will help your productivity and business thrive.

  1. Prioritize

Prioritizing is huge when it comes to productivity. With a mile-long to-do list, it can be tough to know what to check off first, but prioritizing allows you to distinguish your most important tasks from the trivial ones.

Create a strategy for getting the right things done. Decide which tasks or goals you need to get done first and how much time to devote to each one. Prioritizing helps you decide when and where to invest your time for the most productive outcome.

  1. Focus

One of the toughest things about staying productive is all the distractions that come our way. If you want to be more productive, you have to train yourself to have laser-sharp focus, ideally on one task at a time. Multi-tasking can result in lost time and productivity as we try to move from one task to another and back again.

Some ways to enhance your focus are tricks like working in a device-free space, turning off notifications, meditating, taking breaks, and devoting specific hours to specific tasks.

  1. Delegate

It’s impossible to do everything on your own. When you run a business, there are SO many things that have to be taken care of, from branding to social media to finances. Even with automated tools and systems, there’s only so much time one person has in a day, and spending time on the right things is key for business growth.

It’s easy to find yourself multi-tasking when building a business, but if you want to be more productive, you have to delegate certain tasks. You should focus on the most critical tasks for the business, but delegating activities out of your wheelhouse that will help grow your business is key to your success.

  1. Take Regular Breaks

Taking a break may be the last thing you want to do when you’re trying to get work done, but regular breaks can do wonders for your concentration. Working without a break leads to a steady decline in performance and slows your productivity.

Go for a walk, un-clutter your desk, read a book, or even take a gym break throughout the day. Breaking up long tasks helps with performance.
