Three Words

Today I am reporting from sunny, beautiful San Diego. I wanted to share with you a really cool exercise that I went through both with my coach last year as well as here at Brendon Burchard’s Certified High Performance Coaching Program, for which I am now certified.

I really want you to think about this, and if you want to challenge yourself, post your answer in the comments below. What would be three words that you would use to define who you want to step into? One of the main reasons I love coaching programs like this is that you are always pushed to think beyond your present status.

What if you did 10 times better, even 10% better than what you’re doing right now? What words would you use to describe yourself?

One of the words that I chose for myself was impactful. Especially if someone is paying me to professionally help them, I want them to feel that they came away with something useful. Another word that I would use to define myself is progressive. I don’t want to be complacent, even though it is very easy to become so. I was once told a powerful mantra that if you’re not building your empire, then you’re tearing it down. So if you’re just sitting there, going through the motions of your business, you’re tearing down your empire. You are making your life less full, you’re making your life less rich, and at the end of the day, the only person that’s going to suffer from that is you.

My third word is energetic. I want to make sure that I have so much energy that it gives other people permission to bring their energy up. So many of us get into the groove of, “I don’t like my day. I hate Mondays. Oh my god. It’s Friday. Is it five o’clock?” And we lose our energy. I don’t want that to happen to me anymore. I want to make sure that every single day, when I’m around, I am a lit bulb. Not to the point of being manic, to the point where if someone’s talking to me, they feel my energy. If someone’s talking to me, I want them to feel lifted up.

So I want you to think of three words that you would use to define yourself that you can put on sticky notes as a physical reminder every day. Make sure they’re words that would make you want to level up. They’re words that would make you want to say, “I want to be more of that today.” Remember not to pick words that define you in the moment. Pick words that are going to make you push a little bit farther. Pick words that are going to make you say, “You know what, I might not be all of this right now, but my goal is to be all of that consistently, every single day.” I want to always be impactful in every conversation I have.

If I’m not paying attention, if I’m not being present, if I’m not being helpful, that’s on me. I don’t want to be that anymore. I want to be helpful, and sometimes being helpful is simply listening. Maybe listening will be your word. Maybe you want to be present, or maybe you want to be forward thinking. There are lots of different ways you can define yourself.

Take my challenge on today and find three words to describe who you want to be. What words do you want to step into? Post them in the comments below because I would really love to hear them. My three words: progressive, impactful, and energetic. What are yours?
